Arrive at Paro Airport via Druk Air or Bhutan Airlines, enjoying stunning views of mountains and landscapes during the flight. Upon arrival, complete visa formalities before being warmly welcomed and transferred to Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan (50 km, approx. 1 hour 30 minutes drive). After checking into the hotel, we continue exploring the capital city of Happiness Kingdom Bhutan.

After lunch, we drive 5 km south of Thimphu to the top of a hill in Kuenselphodrang Nature Park, where the majestic Buddha Dordenma - Shakyamuni Buddha statue stands. 

In 2006, work began on one of the world's tallest Buddha statues, completed in 2015. Standing 177 feet tall, the bronze and gold-gilded Buddha Dordenma houses 125,000 miniature Buddha statues. Spend a few times at the top of the hill to enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of Thimphu city and then we proceed to A National Memorial Chorten, one of Bhutan's other famous landmarks.

Visit National Memorial Chorten (Stupa) - Memorial Chorten / Thimphu Chorten was constructed in 1974 in honor of Jigme Dorji Wangchuck (1928–1972), the third Druk Gyalpo, and is a notable landmark in the city. The Chorten is a lively spiritual center surrounded by prayer wheels and colorful prayer flags, later we proceed to Tashichodzong. 

Tashichodzong is a magnificent fortress monastery in Thimphu that houses the central monastic body, acts as Bhutan's administrative hub, and houses the king's offices. The Golden roofs, elaborate carvings, and spacious courtyards characterize this stunning specimen of traditional Bhutanese dzong architecture, constructed in 1641 and refurbished in 1961. 

Today's trip will conclude with a visit to the craft bazaar and dinner at the restaurant.

After breakfast in the morning, drive to Takin Preserve Centre, also known as Motithang Mini Zoo, which serves as a conservation area for the Takin, the national animal of Bhutan.  According to legend, this unique creature was magically created by combining the head of a goat with the body of a cow. On the way back to the city, we will stop at Tashichhodzong Viewpoint for a photography break, capturing stunning views of the majestic fortress and its surroundings.

After that, we visit the Folk Heritage Museum, which offers information about Bhutan's history, traditions, and culture. A well-preserved 150-year-old farmhouse displays traditional cooking utensils, farming implements, tools, equipment, and domestic antiques, among many other objects.

Later, we will visit Zorig Chusum, a national institute that trains students from across Bhutan in the 13 traditional arts and crafts. This institute plays a vital role in preserving the country's cultural heritage while also providing students with valuable skills for self-sufficiency. 

After lunch, we head to Punakha (70 km, approx. 2 hour drive), stopping at Dochula Pass (3100 m), one of the high points on the highway connecting Bhutan’s cities. Upon arrival at Punakha, we visit Chimi Lhakhang, also known as the Temple of Fertility, which is believed to bless couples with children. After visiting the temple, we will check into the hotel and end today’s journey.

After breakfast in the morning, We visit Punakha Dzong - Punakha Dzong is a must-visit site for tourists due to its stunning architecture, sacred artifacts, and beautiful riverside location. Built in 1637 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, it is the second-largest dzong in Bhutan. It serves as both the administrative and religious center of Punakha and the winter residence for Bhutan's central monastic body. Located in Punakha at the meeting point of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers, it is one of Bhutan's most historic and impressive fortresses.

After visiting Punakha Dzong, we head to Phobjikha (80 km, approx. 2 hour 30 minutes drive). Before entering the Phobjikha Valley we visit the Gangtey Gompa, located on a hilltop with a view of Phobjikha Valley. Gangtey Gompa is a Nyingma Buddhist monastery from the 17th century. Constructed in 1613, this important location in the local religious life serves as the primary seat of the Gangtey Tulku lineage. Gangtey Monastery offers a unique combination of spirituality, history, and stunning scenery. With its incredible landscapes and rich culture. 

Evening we walk trhough the Phobjikha Valley, also known as the valley of the Black-Necked Cranes, is one of Bhutan's most beautiful valleys. Every year, these rare Blacked-necked Cranes migrate here from late October to mid-March. Phobjikha is a perfect spot for nature lovers and cultural explorers.

Following a quick exploration of the beautiful Phobjikha Valley in the morning, we head to Trongsa (81 km, approx. 2 hours 30 minutes drive) stopping at Pelela Pass (3425 m), one of the high points on the highway connecting Bhutan’s cities. Upon arrival at Trongsa, after lunch, we visit Trongsa Dzong. Built-in 1644 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, Trongsa Dzong is Bhutan’s largest and oldest fortress. It served as an important administrative, cultural, and religious center, playing a key role in unifying the country. Located on a ridge above the Mangde Chhu River, the dzong offers breathtaking views of the valley. With its stunning architecture, sacred temples, and deep historical significance, Trongsa Dzong is a must-visit site in Bhutan.

After visiting Trongsa Dzong, we head to Bhumthang/Zakar (80 km, approx. 2 hours 30 minutes drive), we will check into the hotel and end today’s journey.

After breakfast in the morning, we visit Jakar Dzong, also known as the Fortress of the White Bird, is a historic 17th-century fortress in Bumthang. Built in 1646 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, the unifier of Bhutan. Jakar Dzong played a key role in Bhutan’s defense and administration. With its rich history, impressive architecture, and breathtaking scenery, Jakar Dzong is a must-visit in Bumthang.

After visiting Jakar Dzong, we head to Jambay Lhakhang, one of the oldest temples in Bhutan. Built in the 7th century by King Songtsen Gampo of Tibet. The temple is famous for its stunning architecture, sacred relics, and the Jambay Lhakhang Drup Festival, which features traditional mask dances and rituals every year.

After visiting Jambay Lhakhang, we take a walk through Chamkhar town, surrounded by beautiful rivers and mountains, with a traditional Bhutanese atmosphere. The town has handicraft shops, local markets, and small religious sites to explore. After lunch, we continue our sightseeing with a visit to Kurje Lhakhang.

Kurje Lhakhang is one of the most important temples in Bumthang Valley, linked to Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava), the saint who introduced Buddhism to Bhutan. The main temple, the oldest and holiest, is where Guru Rinpoche is believed to have meditated in the 8th century. The complex also includes a Memorial Chorten to honor his meditation and a new temple with holy relics. The temple is home to Guru Rinpoche’s footprint and body imprint, making it a sacred place.

After breakfast in the morning, we visit Tamshing Lhakhang another important and historic temple in Bumthang Valley, built in the 16th century by Pema Lingpa, a famous Bhutanese saint. The temple is important for its connection to Guru Rinpoche and the Nyingma Buddhism. It is known for its beautiful murals, paintings, and sacred statues that show the life and teachings of Guru Rinpoche.

After visiting Tamshing Lhakhang, we drive approximately 17 Km about 30 minutes southwest of Chamkar Valley to Mebar Tso. Mebar Tsho, also known as the Burning Lake, is one of the most sacred and historically significant sites in Bumthang Valley. The lake has a special meaning for the famed Bhutanese saint Pema Lingpa, who is said to have found terma, or buried jewels, in the lake. The legend of Mebar Tsho tells that Pema Lingpa dived into the lake with a burning lamp, which amazingly stayed lit underwater, making the site sacred. Many pilgrims come to the location to contemplate Bhutan's rich spiritual legacy, meditate, and ask for blessings. The lake offers a stunning view of the surrounding landscape, including snow-capped mountains, dense forests, and a serene atmosphere, making it an ideal spot for quiet reflection.

After visiting Mebar Tsho, we return to town, after lunch, we proceed to Swiss Farm and Reb Panda Brewery, two of Bumthang Valley's unique attractions, providing tourists with a fusion of regional cuisine and natural beauty. Swiss Farm is well-known for its dairy products and cheese-making, allowing visitors to engage with the locals and taste freshly made cheeses. The nearby Reb Panda Brewery provides tours of their craft beer manufacturing facilities, allowing guests to taste a range of herbal and fruit-infused brews.

After breakfast in the morning, we head to Mongar (207 km, approx. 7 hours drive). The drive is lengthy but incredibly beautiful, and it is one of the most stunning and fulfilling drives in eastern Bhutan. After leaving the wide plains of Bumthang, the drive involves several mountain passes, narrow winding roads, and occasional steep sections, making it a long but highly scenic journey. Short stops along the way allow time for photography, rest, and appreciation of the pristine natural surroundings. By late afternoon or early evening, arrive in Mongar, the gateway to eastern Bhutan, where modern amenities blend with traditional Bhutanese charm.

After the day’s journey, relax at your hotel or take a walk around Mongar town, exploring its streets and local shops.

After breakfast in the morning, we visit one of the most significant historical sites in eastern Bhutan - the Mongar Dzong, which was constructed in 1930 by Jigme Wangchuck, the country's first king. Situated on a hilltop with sweeping views of the mountains and the Mongar Valley, the dzong is a unique structure built without architectural blueprints. Mongar Dzong, which combines traditional and modern Bhutanese architecture, is a major monastery site and the administrative hub of the area. It is well-known for its open layout and colourful murals.

After visiting the Mongar Dzong, we head to Trashigang (68 km, approx. 2 hours drive) on a scenic drive through lush subtropical valleys, forests, waterfalls, and traditional villages, offering beautiful photo opportunities along the way. Reach Trashigang, a major historic trading hub close to the Indian border and the main town in eastern Bhutan. Experience the distinctive culture and customs of eastern Bhutan while taking a leisurely stroll around Trashigang town's markets, and streets in the evening.

After breakfast, explore eastern Bhutan, starting with Trashigang Dzong, perched above the valley and one of the region’s most photographed landmarks. Later we take a detour to Trashiyangtse (53 km, approx. 2 hours drive). On the way to Tashiyangtse, visit Gom Kora Temple, a serene hillside monastery overlooking the Drangme Chhu River valley, where Guru Padmasambhava is said to have left his body imprints.

Arrive in Tashiyangtse, a peaceful town known for its traditional woodturning (zorig chusum), scenic mountain landscapes, and the historic Chorten Kora, an 18th-century stupa inspired by Nepal’s Boudhanath Stupa. This quiet region offers travelers a mix of culture, spirituality, and off-the-beaten-path beauty.

After breakfast in the morning, we head to Yonphulla Domestic Airport (36 km, approx. 1 hour drive) to take a flight to Paro. Upon arrival at Paro, we visit Ta Dzong a historic watchtower constructed in the 17th century to guard Rinpung Dzong (Paro Dzong). It now holds the National Museum of Bhutan, featuring religious items, antiques, and Bhutanese art. The tower provides breathtaking views of the Paro Valley and Paro Dzong. After visiting Ta Dzong we go to another location Kyichu Lhakhang - Kyichu Lhakhang is one of Bhutan's oldest and most important temples, built in the 7th century by King Songtsen Gampo of Tibet. It is part of a series of temples built to subdue a demon and spread Buddhism. While visiting, you can experience Bhutanese religious rituals, enjoy the beautiful garden, and see the statue of Jowo Shakyamuni. It is a must-visit site for anybody to discover more about Bhutan's rich spiritual and cultural legacy.

Following a tour of the Kyichu Lhakhang, we walk beside the Paro Chuu River, explore the local market of Paro, we will check into the hotel, and end today’s journey.

After having a good breakfast, we begin our exciting and much-anticipated tour of Bhutan. We drive 14 km (about 30 minutes) to the starting point of the Taktsang Monastery (Tiger Nest Monastery) hike. This hike is considered moderate to challenging, depending on your fitness level. The round-trip hike covers about 6 km and takes around 3 hours to reach the monastery, with 2 hours for the return journey.

Located at 3,120 meters above the Paro Valley, Taktsang Monastery dates back to the 8th century and is associated with Guru Rinpoche, who is said to have meditated here. This iconic site is a must-visit for spiritual reflection, meditation, and experiencing Bhutan's rich cultural heritage. This site is a key highlight of any Bhutan trip.

*Please note that ponies are available for rent at the base of the monastery for an additional fee of Nu. 1500 or equivalent foreign currency. Your guide will help you with the reservation.

However, ponies are only available for the uphill portion of the hike. You will need to walk downhill on your own.

After reaching the base, we drive to the city and go to farmhouse that gives you a glimpse into traditional Bhutanese rural life. These farmhouses are usually made of wood and stone, surrounded by terraced fields growing rice, barley, and vegetables. A visit to a farmhouse is the best way to connect with the local culture and gain an authentic experience of rural Bhutan. 

Today is already the last day of your trip. We will drive to Paro Airport where you can catch your flight back to Kathmandu or to onward destination.
